A Matter of Scale
Architectural Research, 2019
In the domain of human perception, scale operates simultaneously as a quantifiable measure and a potent metaphor—an intangible thread weaving together our comprehension of the Earth's vastness and the immediacy of our personal environments. However, within the constructed realms of visual and spatial representation, scale frequently manifests as an illusion, a malleable construct capable of distorting or magnifying our perception of reality. This persistent tension between the seen and the perceived beckons a profound inquiry into the very nature of scale itself, especially in relation to our entanglement with the planetary and the architectural—models that aspire to encapsulate the enormity of the Earth within manageable, often utopian, frameworks.
