This thought-provoking question brings to mind sexual and patriarchal
power dynamics, where one person establishes dominance over the other. The term „daddy“ connotes a father, who is traditionally
seen as an authority figure. However, we shouldn‘t limit the definition of „daddy“ to an individual or a gender. Instead, we can broaden
it to encompass inherited knowledge, history, traditions, practices
real or metaphorical places that we come from, codes that we follow,
and more. But how often do we critically examine these inheritances that have shaped our cities? It seems like sometimes we just can’t
escape our daddies. We love both claiming the role of a dominant
figure to assume power and subjecting ourselves to authority figures to avoid accountability and precarity.
What is your inclination: to lead or be led? What are the power
dynamics that underlie these roles? What is inherited knowledge,
and who decides what knowledge is passed down? How does the
past inform current and future practices? What references do we
keep making, and is it not time to question their credibility? Can we
separate the architecture from the architect and challenge the legacies
that have shaped our world? Who are your role models, who do
you feel compelled to follow? Have you ever refused to obey? Are
you willing to turn your back on the „Daddy“?
